Prof. PhDr. Lenka Rovná, CSc.

Lenka Rovná studied at the Faculty of Education and at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague. Later she also spent a year at St. Hilda’s College at Oxford University (1988). In 1999 she became a Jean Monnet Chair Ad Personam and the bearer of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in European Studies at Charles University (the first in Central and Eastern Europe). She is the founder and chair of the Department of West European Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in Prague. In 1991-1995 she was Visiting Professor at Guelph, Bishop’s and Calgary University, Canada. In 2002-2003 she was serving as a representative and a government alternate of the Czech Republic at the Convention on the Future of Europe. In addition, she gave lectures at various prestigious institutions, such as for example Oxford University, London School of Economics, Chapel Hill College. She is Honorary President of ECSA – Czech (since 1999), a member of various committees, and a regular commentator of political events for the media (e.g. CBC, BBC World Service, Czech Television, Czech Radio etc.).  She is also the author of several books, including for instance The Prime Minister of Her Majesty: A Decade of Thatcherism in Great Britain (Prague, 1990), The History of Canada (the Lidové Noviny Publishing House, 2004). In 2004 she was awarded the Chavaliere de l’Ordre national du Merite by the French President. Her fields of research include the European integration process, European integration theories, the enlargement of the EU, political systems of Canada and UK etc.
